This front porch area in Bedford NH had a lot of algae and aging stain. The wood on this deck is mahogany. Aggressive washing and sanding was needed to remove as much of the older stain as possible. Re-coating of the same stain will always be needed. Yearly or every other year maintenance is recommended by most stain companies on horizontal surfaces. We apply 2 coats of stain but the 2nd one is not as heavy as the 1st. Yearly checking and re-application of stain where needed is the recommendation.
